 Blue Waves
This Quilt Was Stolen

This quilt was accepted into the Rhythm 'n blues exhibition of the 11th European Patchwork Meeting and subsequently went on tour with this exhibition to various places in France and Italy. The quilt measures 122 x 217 cm (48.1/8 x 85.1/8") and was finished in May 2005. It has a label at the back with all my personal information. I was informed on the 16th Feb. that the quilt was stolen. Not until the 23rd Feb when I phoned the European Patchwork Meeting Artistic Director Christophe Crupi did I receive the full information regarding what happened and it now turns out the theft took place well in advance of his first phone call to me. As far as I now know the following happened:

From Feb. 12 - 26, 2006 the quilt was meant to be hanging in the Sala d'Arte of the Town Hall, Via Roma 31, Luserna S. Giovanni, a town approx. 45 minutes from Turin, during the winter Olympics. The entire exhibition was shipped from France to Italy in on big box. On arrival at the town hall someone signed for the box which apparently looked undisturbed. However on opening the box (and I don't know how much later this happened!) it was discovered the top 5 quilts had disappeared. Both the Italian and French police are looking into this theft. It could either have been an opportunistic theft (which seems unlikely, as the box was closed again and looked as before!) or a planned one. If the first there is some chance the thief might dump the quilts and they might be retrieved. If the latter I don't hold out much hope of seeing the quilt again. But if you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Blue Waves please contact me, no questions asked, on f.oxenham@tinyworld.co.uk. I would really appreciate any help!!
