One of the greatest joys of running Hannah’s Room is the chance to step out from behind the sewing machine (or the kit table!) and spend time with fellow stitchers in person. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to visit quilting groups, guilds, and sewing clubs all across the country, sharing my love of textiles, batik fabrics, and the creative journey that Hannah’s Room has taken since its beginnings back in 1999.
Inspiring Talks
Our talks are a mix of storytelling and textile inspiration. I share the history of Hannah’s Room, from how it started in my sister’s bedroom all those years ago to the thriving creative business it is today. Alongside that, I show examples of our kits, journal quilts, and larger textile pieces, discussing the design process, fabric choices, and techniques.
One of our most popular talks is “The Beauty of Batiks” a colourful journey into the world of batik fabrics. In this talk, I share how these stunning fabrics are made, their origins and cultural stories, and why they’ve become such a cornerstone of my own designs. It’s always a joy to watch eyes light up as people discover just how much artistry and history lies behind the cloth.
It’s a relaxed and informal session, full of colour, texture, and plenty of ideas to spark your own creativity. There’s always time for questions, and I love hearing about the projects your group is working on too.
Hands-On Workshops
Workshops are where the magic really happens. I offer a range of sessions that can be tailored to your group’s interests, from fabric collage and journal quilting to themed seasonal projects. Every workshop is designed to be achievable, inspiring, and enjoyable, whether your members are complete beginners or experienced stitchers looking for fresh ideas.
Workshops usually include:
A guided project using our beautiful batik fabrics
Demonstrations of key techniques
Step-by-step support as you create your own piece
Encouragement to add personal touches and make the design your own
By the end of the session, every participant leaves with a unique stitched artwork, plus new skills and confidence to take into future projects.
