Create your own beautifully stitched Christmas tree with this downloadable slow-stitch pattern from Hannah’s Room.

The Christmas Tree began as one of my Journal Quilt designs and has been carefully adapted for hand stitching. Set against a snowy night sky, the rich green tree is decorated with a gently stitched string of lights, colourful sequins and a satin-stitched star.

This festive textile project is designed to be relaxing and enjoyable, with clear instructions to guide you through constructing the background, positioning the appliqué tree and adding the stitched details.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

You will receive one 12-page printable PDF pattern containing:

FINISHED SIZE

The finished stitched design measures approximately 6 × 8 inches and is suitable for displaying in an 8 × 10-inch frame with a 6 × 8-inch aperture.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

• Calico or firm cotton measuring approximately 8 × 10 inches

• Deep navy or dark blue dotted cotton for the sky

• White or cream cotton for the snow

• Green batik or cotton for the tree

• Coordinating embroidery threads or cotton perle in white, brown, green, red, grey and yellow

• Assorted 6 mm colourful sequins

• Hand-embroidery needle

• Fusible web such as Bondaweb

• Scissors, pins or tacking thread and an iron

You are welcome to use batik fabrics, printed cottons or other suitable fabrics from your own collection. Your version does not need to match the original exactly.

PRINTING YOUR PATTERN

The pattern is formatted for A4 paper. US customers may print it on US Letter paper if their printer supports A4 PDF pages without shrinking.

Always select “Actual Size” or “100%” in your printer settings. Do not select “Fit to Page.”

Before cutting your fabric, measure the included 1-inch test square and confirm that the outer border of the stitch-placement guide measures exactly 6 × 8 inches.

SKILL LEVEL

Suitable for beginners and more experienced stitchers.

The instructions are written in a warm, encouraging style, and the stitch dictionary provides illustrated support for the hand stitches used. Slow stitching is wonderfully flexible, so you can follow the original design closely or add your own creative touches.
